Taco Del Mar, a Seattle-based fast-food chain specializing in Baja-style burritos and tacos that has been sweeping North America's West Coast, expects to have a restaurant open in London this fall at the latest. The London operation will be one of up to 300 new Canadian franchises the company plans to develop in Canada over the next four years in a deal with B.C.-based TDM Federal Holdings. "Over the past two years, this group has done an outstanding job of developing new franchisees, locations and infusing our brand with great enthusiasm in Canada," said Taco Del Mar president David Huether. "We look forward to working with them as they develop the rest of the country." The immediate focus will be to launch Taco Del Mar in Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Ontario. "Eventually we'll be moving our head office to Mississauga and then working our way around Southern Ontario in a horseshoe pattern," said Darryl Chandra, a developer with TDM. "Everything really depends on finding the right real estate and franchisee," he said. "If that comes together quickly, we could even be in London by the summer but right now we're scheduled to be in there by the fall." There are 22 Taco Del Mar restaurants in British Columbia and expansion in Alberta is imminent. "Taco Del Mar is about fun and great food inspired by laid-back beach shacks that dish mondo burritos and rippin' tacos," the company said earlier this week in a news release. The restaurant offers 24-ounce mondo pork and chicken burritos, fish tacos, kids meals, salads, vegetarian and vegan meals. Store decor sets the "Inner Baja" mood with surf murals, thatched umbrellas, sailfish, and long board tabletops.
