A COUPLE who found love thanks to legendary matchmaker Topol have swapped the stage for sandwiches by opening the first Subway shop in Morecambe. For Alan and Angela Carradus, who met 12 years ago backstage during the musical Fiddler on the Roof, their new store near the Arndale Centre marks a major career change. Alan and Angela previously worked in the theatre all over the world, but will instead now be making Subway's sumptuous butties for a living, encouraging customers to 'Eat Fresh'. Family "I'm originally from Barrow and used to come to Morecambe as a child, and loved it here," says Alan, former production manager at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester. "We both love Subway, we like the location and we aim to open more Subway franchises to make this a thriving family business." Angela added: "You can feel it in the air that things are changing in Morecambe and businesses are starting to re-invest in the town." Alan also worked on London's Millennium Dome project, in the Middle East and on several major West End musicals before deciding to give up theatre work. Angela will continue to work freelance as a make-up artist, while taking on the role of area manager for the Carradus' Subway franchise. Having previously done make-up for everyone from Gary Oldman to Martin Sheen, she will soon begin work on the Christmas show at the Library Theatre in Manchester. But their main priority is Subway, fast becoming the world's most popular sandwich brand. The new shop opened on Wednesday and was extremely busy within minutes, as customers queued to try everything from Subway's Meatball Marinara on Hearty Italian bread to its Italian BMT with cheese on Honey Oat!
