It was the late 1960s. Trying to remedy his allergies and low blood sugar, Steve Kuhnau began experimenting with mixing real fruit, nutrients and proteins in a blender at home. His concoctions began to have a positive impact on his health. Steve began a true believer in nutrition and that's how he came to create the Smoothie King Smoothie, the original nutritional smoothie. In 1973, Steve decided to open a health food store and began selling vitamins along with the smoothies. The idea was a hit so Steve and his wife, Cindy, took the business to the next level. In 1989 they awarded their first Smoothie King franchise.
