Ramada Franchise Systems, Inc. was the recipient of the travel industry's most prestigious advertising award, the H. Victor Grohmann "Best of Show," for its Personal Best Hospitality(SM) advertising campaign at the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI) Adrian and Golden Bell Awards Competition. The Ramada chain was selected over every travel entry, including other hotel chains, airlines, cruise lines, car rental agencies and convention and tourism bureaus, representing over 51 countries. The chain also won a Platinum Adrian Advertising Award, the highest advertising award in the "hotel" category, for its Personal Best Hospitality campaign, as well as a Silver Golden Bell Public Relations Award for its corporate sponsorship of the humanitarian organization, Childreach. Ramada's advertising campaign highlights "people over products" to underscore a new focus for the brand -- exceptional employee service through its customer service initiative Personal Best Hospitality. For example, the chain's national print advertising campaign showcases real Ramada property employees and their unique stories of guest service. In one advertisement, a Ramada property employee from California was featured after inviting 30 guests at the hotel to his home to watch the Tyson/Holyfield boxing match. To complement the print advertising campaign, the chain's national TV advertisements use humor through comic "rescues" to feature Ramada's outstanding service. One of the spots is set in a Ramada lobby in which a guest accidentally sends her suitcase sailing across the floor. It is headed straight for a luggage cart filled with bags when a Ramada employee dives in front of the cart to retrieve it. The spot's closing line, "At Ramada, we throw ourselves into our work," takes the viewer from the specific comic scene to the larger idea of out-of-the ordinary service. Personal Best Hospitality is a comprehensive training initiative designed to encourage and reward employees for providing outstanding service to Ramada guests. Through instructional and interactive videos, educational speakers and certification classes, employees are trained and motivated to exceed guests' expectations. The initiative also introduces employees to different career paths within the hospitality industry by offering tuition assistance and professional certification. The chain's campaign to assist impoverished children around the world through the Childreach humanitarian organization also won a Silver Golden Bell Public Relations Award. Belmonte spearheaded the construction of a health clinic in Kaleya, Africa that today provides healthcare to over 20,000 people. Belmonte also secured the funds necessary to open a new library at the Hotel and Tourism Training Institute in Lusaka, Africa and donated laptop computers and educational supplies. Ramada Franchise Systems, Inc., a subsidiary of Cendant Corporation (NYSE: CD), is a mid- to upper-mid-market chain of over 1,000 Ramada Limited, Inn and Plaza Hotel properties throughout the United States.
