What's the secret behind the fastest growing sandwich chain in the United States? Adhering to a philosophy that good is not good enough. It's Quizno's culture to push itself time and time again to be great. Being great means offering customers new, quality menu options every quarter as well as redesigning the interiors of the restaurants every two to three years to keep pace with changing consumer preferences and to expand its menu offerings. Quizno's is embarking on such an overhaul now, with more than 100 new-look stores slated to be completed by year-end, and the remainder of its stores completed by mid-2003. This latest redesign represents the next evolution of Quizno's current Italian decor. The color palette is softer, using tones of terracotta, blue and plum. The artwork is modern, illustrative and whimsical and the overall environment is much more sophisticated. "Quizno's new decor is a step up from the traditional fast food restaurant, although the convenience of quick-service is still there," said Quizno's spokesperson, Stacie Lange. "The design is an extension of the older store design, yet it is more contemporary, more stylish and more comfortable. Italians are known to be innovators of design, and our new store design is similar to what would be found in Florence or Milan, Italy." Design Changes Accommodate Menu Enhancements In addition to changing the overall aesthetic of its stores, the Quizno's redesign program also accommodates a number of menu enhancements. For those who prefer to customize their subs, Quizno's is introducing an expanded format of the pepper bar, including jalapeno, banana and pepperoncini peppers, pickles and four gourmet sauces. A new beverage station offers customers a choice of soft drinks, two tea urns filled with fresh-brewed premium iced teas, and a bubbler of real fruit raspberry lemonade. The new store design would not be complete without highlighting one particular feature that makes Quizno's subs unique -- the oven. Quizno's, the largest national sub chain known for toasting its subs, is equipping its restaurants with ovens that have viewing windows so that guests can watch their subs toast, the cheese melt, and the ingredients warm to bring out all the flavors. A large neon sign above the ceiling grid displays the words "Oven Toasted Tastes Better." Headquartered in Denver, Colorado, Quizno's has more than 1,800 locations worldwide and it is the fastest growing sandwich chain in the United States, according to Nation's Restaurant News, June 2002. Best known for toasting its signature sub sandwiches, this quick service restaurant concept is a leader in the growing upscale sandwich category. This article has been read 1589 times .
