A push by pizza company Papa John's to revolutionise the delivery market and raise customer expectations has been rewarded with one of the industry's highest accolades. The Pizza, Pasta and Italian Food Association has named Papa John's ‘Delivery Operator of the Year 2004' after the US-based company implemented a string of operations and marketing initiatives to improve customer service and perceptions. The award was made at the Association's annual dinner held in London, and Papa John's managing director Daniel Cousineau is delighted that the 70-strong chain has been given such high recognition. He said: "Over the last 18 months we have had a very clear plan of how we wanted to raise the bar in the industry, and give customers the best possible service from start to finish. "This has involved a range of initiatives; the evolution of the store design into a look which really reflects the quality of our product, the opening of new stores in key locations, the trialing of new, bespoke delivery vehicles which help keep items at perfect temperature and the introduction of innovative new quality products, all being examples. "We are delighted that the Association has recognised those efforts and achievements, and that they have understand the commitment we have to setting new standards in the industry." Papa John's, which also operates over 120 Perfect Pizza stores in the UK, is now getting set to open a number of new stores in the next few months and The Pizza, Pasta and Italian Food Association director Jim Winship praised the efforts of their management team. He said: "Papa John's are one of the biggest players in the US market and this award reflects the enormous amount of effort they are putting into establishing the brand in the UK. "In the last 12 months they have exhibited a great deal of innovation and forward thinking to become the most improved delivery chain in the UK we are delighted to name them ‘Delivery Operator of the Year 2004."
