Kathleen Kuhn, president and CEO of HouseMaster , announces the appointment of Michel (Mike) Phillips to the newly created position of Chief Operating Officer, effective immediately. Phillips, a 30 year veteran of franchise management and consultation specializing in multi-unit retail operations, was most recently Senior Vice President at New World Restaurant Group. “We’re delighted that Mike has come onboard,” says Kuhn. “His long and impressive career as both franchisee and franchisor gives him a unique and broad understanding of franchising, and I have no doubt he will prove to be a great asset to our organization.” Phillips spent the first 14 years of his long and illustrious career at Gino’s, Inc., where he was responsible for 460 restaurants in 15 states. He spent the following decade as President of Philmar Mid-Atlantic, which built, owned and operated 15 KFC restaurants and managed all aspects of their business operations. Phillips ran his own consulting and management companies as well, and spent two years at Rita’s Water Ice Franchise Corp., prior to joining New World Restaurant Group in 2001. A frequent invited keynote speaker at regional meetings of the International Franchise Association (IFA), Phillips serves on a wide variety of boards and associations. In addition to serving as director of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Better Business Bureau (8 years), and an officer of the Greater Philadelphia Restaurant Association (4 years), he actively participated in drug and alcohol awareness programs in the Philadelphia area (D.A.R.E. and the Pennsylvania Citizens’ Advisory Council on Drug Abuse). Phillips has won several awards for operational excellence and innovative management including KFC's prestigious "White Glove Award" for operational excellence; KFC’s sales award for the State of Pennsylvania; and was nominated as restaurant executive of the year by the New York State Restaurant Association. In addition, Phillips was selected by the CEO of KFC to be one of 7 franchisees to serve on its concept development council from a total of almost 800 franchisees. “I look forward to working with the franchisees and executives at HouseMaster, whose organization I have admired as an industry leader and innovator,” says Phillips. “And I hope my experiences and knowledge are beneficial to the many hard-working franchisees out in the field.” Phillips will report directly to Kuhn, and will work with the HMA Management Team to manage and implement overall corporate strategies in all areas of operation.
