(NCRI), a DKI member company located in Wichita, KS, was recently selected as the 2005 Small Business of the Year by the Wichita Area Chamber of Commerce. This is the first year the Wichita Area Chamber of Commerce has awarded this honor. Starting with 160 nominated companies, the finalists were narrowed to 10 companies. These 10 companies had to give presentations on their companies and go through interview sessions during a 6 week period. "NCRI's ability to uniquely serve customers worldwide and be recognized internationally by its peers are two of its numerous distinguishing traits," said Bryan Derreberry, Chamber president and CEO. "NCRI was the first business in their industry to be ISO certified, which enabled them in turn to be an attractive vendor for other ISO certified businesses worldwide. Besides giving successful small businesses the recognition they deserve, the Chamber designed its Small Business Awards program to give other small businesses a chance to learn from the best. Three events were held to allow business professionals access to the Top 10 businesses, including a showcase mixer, a sunrise scrambler and the award luncheon where the Chamber presented NCRI with the award. A panel of judges rated the companies based on growth, financial strength, employee relations, community service and company history. Eligible companies had to be for-profit, headquartered in the Wichita Metro area, employ no more than 100 full-time equivalent employees and be in business a minimum of three years. Judges then made a site visit to the Top 10 businesses and assessed community involvement at each. "It is such an honor for NCRI to receive this award," commented Nick Easter, president of NCRI. "The entire process was very exciting, especially in the inaugural year of the award. The DKI network has helped us in growing our business and enabled us expand our scope even farther than we were able to before."
